Black on Black Crime Not Justification for Hate Crimes or Police Brutality

Written by on 22 June 2015

Black on black crime is not a justification or cause for a hate crime, episode of police brutality or any other grave injustice. It’s inevitable that after every tragedy, reprehensible event, brutal attack or flat-out act of disrespect by a non-black aggressor against a black victim that black on black crime gets thrown into the forefront. Let’s not be mistaken — black on black crime is a serious problem that must be confronted and treated but it’s not probable cause to justify all other acts of violence.

In fact, when perusing through FBI stats from 2013 on the race of a victim versus the race of their offender, the numbers tell a different story than what the media forces down our throats, what racists and bigots spew at every turn and what numb-minded drones post across social media – white on white crime is just as serious a problem, just as Hispanic on Hispanic crime, just as black on black crime is. In fact, across all races, murder seems to be intra-racial instead of interracial as the bevy of racists and bigots report across all forms of mass media with their dangerous propaganda.

Breaking down the FBI statistics from 2013:

  • Of 3005 white homicide victims, 2509 were killed by a white offender – 83%
  • Of 2491 black homicide victims, 2245 were killed by a black offender – 90%
  • Of 588 Hispanic victims, 439 were killed by a Hispanic offender – 74%

Black on black crime is the highest, but the other numbers are just as dismal and it’s time to recognize that violence knows no race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background.

When will the U.S. recognize that we have a real problem with violence in this country?
