Isn’t it Time to Let the Steve Harvey Gaffe Go for An Event Nobody Cared About?

Written by on 26 December 2015

Why, yes, it is. Yes, it was a mistake. Yes, it was embarrassing. No, nobody died. Yes, a few feelings may have gotten hurt, but hey, we’re all human — mistakes happen. Somehow, someway, nearly a week later, people are still up in arms about a pageant that most people didn’t even know was on and probably could care less about because of a mistake that Steve Harvey made at the end.

The bigger mistake is the fact that we still have beauty pageants, which really serve no purpose other than to parade beautiful women around for ratings, which profit powerful men. In the 21st century, what’s the point of a beauty pageant? Do we really need to have a contest to find the most beautiful woman in the universe? We do it every year and yeah, it doesn’t make much of a difference to the vast majority of the population.

The Miss Universe organizers and sponsors might want to give Steve Harvey a little bonus for making the pageant visible again and actually interesting. After all, would you have even known it aired?
