By now, we all know that former “Clueless” actress, Stacey Dash, will say anything to stay relevant and thankfully for her, Fox News has given her a platform. Unfortunately for us, we have to be subjected to her half-thoughts. In her usual fashion, she dimly and ignorantly weighed in on the “Oscars so white” flap and as usual, she came out looking – well, clueless. Here’s three reasons why she missed the mark.

  • We’re not talking about integration and segregation; we’re talking about inclusion. If there are black-dominated movies that were critically acclaimed and added considerably to the box office rolls, why shouldn’t they be nominated? Fair is fair and all movies should be judged equally. By leaving out certain movies and actors/actresses, it looks a little, shall we say, racist.
  • BET is white-owned now and readily welcomes white guests on its award shows, feature non-black hosts on various shows, features white cast members prominently in its sitcoms and such. There’s no one who can honestly accuse BET of being anti-white. In fact, some people think it’s not even geared towards blacks as much nowadays. And oh yeah, Stacey was on BET’s “The Game.” Maybe she should pay them back for being discriminatory.
  • We still have Black History Month, BET, NAACP Image Awards and the such since blacks are still considered “others” and we aren’t readily included in the mainstream. We’re still “niche,” or “urban,” or “inner-city.” That’s why we’re still called African-American and not just American. That’s why we have to have our own publication and platforms because how many blacks are on primetime shows, blockbuster movies and gracing the cover of “Vogue?”

Now, dear Stacey, please realize that you since you do have a platform, you have a responsibility to seem somewhat intelligent, so please choose your words more carefully. Or better yet, don’t say anything at all. That would suit us all just fine, too.
