First Transgender Cast Member Joins ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta,’ Is it All for Show?
Written by Afterparty South on 12 April 2016
While “transgender” wasn’t in the common vernacular until quite recently, there’s been a tidal wave of transgender men and women coming to the forefront and showing the world who they are and what they stand for. Not wanting to be left off the tolerant train, “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” debuted its first transgender cast member, D. Smith. The trans woman is a music producer who has worked with the likes of Keri Hilson, Lil Wayne and Andre 3000. Not to say that her music doesn’t carry weight, but none of her work has been a big hit in the U.S., according to ajc.com.
Now, the real question is – is it really necessary to have D. Smith on the show or is it just a way to be the first aboard a hot button topic? Does “LHHA” really care about transgender/gay rights or do they want to be the first “LHH” show to get a trans person on? What types of implications will this have? Do you even care? These are the burning questions! TellUsHowYouReallyFeel
