Oh, What an Event — Recapping the First Annual Party Awards

In an event fitting of 5 years of music, entertainment, hard work, dedication and community service, Tha Afterparty Radio’s First Annual Party Awards had a bit of everything – great music, fun, laughter, live performances and a tribute to the community. The brainchild of station owner and program director, Montanna Mitchem, the show highlighted all that the Dallas-based Internet radio station had accomplished. Held at the nostalgic Josey Records, the awards show featured the upbeat tunes and stellar DJ’ing of DJ Lady Ja-Roq on the 1’s and 2’s.

Kicking off the show were the energetic and dazzling, Dallas Dazzlers, who performed a high-kicking, electrifying dance number. After an intro and welcome from Mitchem, comedian, Blaq Ron, took over the emceeing duties. With his quick wit and sharp humor, he commanded the stage. Show hosts and community members handed out awards to winners of 10 categories. Special guests such as VNA of Texas director, Kim Peters; publisher of “Southern Dallas Magazine,” James Thomas; and PR maven, radio personality and founder of Key II The City, D’Lyte, also announced winners.

Interspersed between award announcements, there were several live performances. Renowned violinist, Richmond Punch, performed a soul-tingling set. Word artist/poet, A.J. Houston, recited his consciousness-resonating poetry. Rapper Yung Cash got the crowd hype with his on-point rhymes. Fellow rapper, Young’n Official, wowed the crowd with his impromptu performance.

A children’s dance contest brought the audience to their feet as a group of youth performed all the latest dances, including the Quan, the Whip and Nae Nae and the Dab. Capping off the night was the Life of the Party Award handed out by Mitchem to the always effervescent, Robi Nickoli of “The ADD Show.” In her closing remarks, Mitchem gave a heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to her success and prosperity. As the inaugural show, the Party Awards laid an amazing foundation that will only get bigger and better in subsequent years.
