Black Lives Matter but so Does Quality of Life
Written by Afterparty South on 3 August 2015
Unfortunately, we’ve all grown too accustomed to hearing black lives matter. The focus has been on unarmed black men and women killed by police officers. While this is reprehensible, it’s time to look at the big picture. How can we separate out the fact that there seems to be a total disregard for black people’s lives from the fact that we are still on the bottom economically in this country? America is a country based on the principles and values of capitalism and everybody knows that those with money get the power, the respect and therefore the validation that their lives mean more
What’s the point of the chants, the marches, the protests if we’re still struggling to get a piece of the American dream? Why are we still seen and treated as second-class citizens? When are we going to finally realize our rightful spot in American society?
Now is the time to take control of our financial destiny in this country and improve our quality of life. It’s time to start our businesses, support these black-owned businesses, teach our children money sense and build wealth to pass on generationally.
After all, what’s the point of “Black Lives Matter” if our quality of life is so bad that there’s nothing worth fighting for?
