Dawn Richards Explains The Real Reason for Danity Kane’s Split

Written by on 23 January 2015

Who knew former Danity Kane member Dawn Richards was bout that life? According to her recent visit to the Breakfast Club while promoting her latest album, Blackheart she spilled the beans on the alleged fight she had with her former group member Aubrey O’Day. Last August, the group’s reunion was short-lived after Dawn and Aubrey got into a fight while recording. Reports came out Dawn punched Aubrey in the head, resulting in her filing a battery report against Dawn and the group splitting. Now, Dawn is clearing the air about the fight and setting the record straight.

On DK splitting up again, Dawn stated:

The problem with Danity Kane is everybody wanted to play everybody’s role, and when you’re in a group like that, that can’t survive — everybody can’t be Kobe  on the team. A quarterback cannot decide tomorrow to say ‘I’m gonna be a wide receiver.’ He might be a really great runner, but when it’s time to get this championship ring, everybody has to play a part.

Makes sense. So, did Dawn really go upside Aubrey’s head? The singer admits she did but reveals circumstances lead up to the their altercation. According to Dawn:

There is no excuse for my behavior but what I’m saying it everybody gets pushed to a limit. When something is poisoning and you go into the studio and people are literally going behind your back and lying to you and taking your vocals and doing things that are shady that’s foul.

Dawn claims she was confronted by Aubrey and Shannon Bex about monopolizing the vocals on the album. Dawn then alleged the two told her they were needed in the studio the next day, but she decided to go in the day before. That’s where she caught Aubrey and Shannon trying to lowkey add their vocals without her! Dawn recalled:

They told me we had the studio the next day, and they went in the day before. I walked in on them doing it, and I tried to confront them…I blacked out…I couldn’t believe it. It’s my fault, their fault, everybody.

Mighty big of Dawn to admit her wrong in this entire thing. Does Dawn see herself being friends with Aubrey again? Dawn danced around the answer staying:

It’s no love lost. I love my group members; I just don’t like the things that we do. When something is poison you have to know when to say it’s enough. I didn’t like who I was when I was in it. We didn’t love it. We were coming in fighting, that’s not what we suppose to be. It’s supposed to be love. If it’s not about the art, if it’s not about the fans then what are we really doing it for.
