The Underground Party: Chapo

Written by on 13 January 2015

“I like to feel and tell people, it’s okay to be different, God made you to be you,” is not only sage advice that Chapo likes to dish out but a sentiment you can feel through his music. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Chapo has experienced his share of heartbreak, pain and disappointment, but through it all, he relied on his music to help him traverse the choppy waters. Drawing strength from the Yaper, his 6-member group, Chapo has been able to broaden and expand his musical territory. Dabbling in everything from hip-hop to bluegrass to reggae to acoustic guitar, Chapo feels comfortable in any musical arena.

The aptly named “ChapoTape” is this artist’s first major project. In it, he bares his soul, sharing his personal experiences, along with a message for the listener in every song. He touches on everything from relationship struggles to racism to achieving the American Dream. Chapo is more than the typical artist — he wants to give more, in fact, he wants to give his all to his listening audience to make sure they are truly feeling where he is come from.

Through all his ups and downs, Chapo focuses on not only being the best, but delivering the best and refuses to take any shortcuts. Even on sensitive subject matters, Chapo has a forthright delivery that allows him to express himself freely, which he hopes others will learn to do.

Featuring a wide array of beats, styles and themes, Chapo promises there’s a little bit of something for everybody. He also assures, “By the time you finish this, I’m pretty sure you will fall in love with one of many, if not all.”
