Trump Continues to Say Whatever the Hell He Feels & The Right Refuses to Check Him

So-called “President” Trump has “crossed” the line too many times to count, but perhaps his outright racist, offensive and downright erroneous tweets on Sunday take the cake when he openly called out four female freshmen progressive lawmakers, known affectionately as “The Squad,” by telling them to “go back” to their countries. The problem is a) they’re U.S. citizens; b) they are sworn-in members of the U.S. House; and c) with the exception of one, they were all born in the U.S. And, even more ironically, he tweeted the shameful messages in an attempt to defend House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who NY Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) accused of targeting female lawmakers of color for not supporting establishment Democrat policies. Sounds like a good idea on its head, having a racist support allegations of racism…
Grand Wizard Trump tweeted: “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.”
Then, he continued: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”
And, he ended with: “These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”
Going back to The Squad being U.S. citizens and where they were born, AOC is Puerto Rican and was born in NY. Rep. Ayanna Pressley, “the first black woman elected to the House from Massachusetts, was born in Cincinnati.” Rashida Tlaib was born in Detroit. Ilhan Omar, “the first Somali native elected to Congress and one of its first Muslim women, was born in Somalia but spent much of her childhood in a Kenyan refugee camp as civil war tore apart her home country.” She immigrated to the U.S. at age 12 with her family. Oooh, so un-American.
Despite their roots in the U.S., as has historically been the case, they’re seen as less American since they’re not white like, let’s say Melania Trump, who is a whole immigrant but regarded as a full American. She didn’t become a permanent U.S. citizen until she was about 31 and coincidentally married Trump in 2005 and became a U.S. citizen in 2006. Hmmm…makes you wonder.
But, back to Trump. Not only did he not apologize to The Squad, but he had the audacity to say they’re the ones who are racist and owe him and the country an apology. Taking to his favorite platform, Trump tweeted on Monday, “When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!”
Then, he wrote, “If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.”
In typical, blame-the-victim fashion, Trump deflected by defending his original tweets and calling out the Left as the real racists. And, who’s to check him? Obviously not Republicans because Marc Short, chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, said that Trump’s comments “were not racist, and he was only responding to very specific comments made by Omar and wasn’t making a universal statement.”
Short said that Trump’s intent wasn’t to be racist and proved Trump wasn’t racist by making it known that Trump chose Taiwan-born Elaine Chao to be his transportation secretary. Forget the fact that she’s married to prominent Sen. Mitch McConnell. And, if you have one non-white person in your administration, you couldn’t possibly be racist, right?
And, let’s go full circle to our spineless friends on the Right. Most have refused to even speak out against Trump’s unbelievable tweets let alone put him in his place. A few spoke out, but a few isn’t enough to combat this blatant racism and disrespect. Instead of Sen. Lindsey Graham reading Trump the riot act, he defended him by saying that the Dems lured him into this.
Graham gave Trump some fatherly advice: “Don’t get personal. Don’t take the bait.” While he said that AOC and her colleagues “are American citizens” who were “duly elected,” he just had to add in some jabs: “We all know that AOC and this crowd are a bunch of communists. They hate Israel. They hate our own country.”
And, there you have it — Trump can say whatever the hell he wants because he’s white, he’s a man and he’s the “president,” and the Right will continue to let him go unchecked. God bless America.
