There’s always more to a story than meets the eye, so you never know when the plot twist is coming. While the Internet was in an uproar after images of a little black boy modeling “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” hoodie (dis)graced the H&M website, the chants of boycotts reverberated, the celebrity activism resounded, but the young boy at the center of it all – his and his family’s opinions were nowhere to be found – until now.
His mom is apparently the one who oversees his jobs and outfit choices. Was the mom outraged? Was she ashamed? Was she ready to blast the fashion industry for lack of diversity and cultural insensitivity? No, no and no. Instead, she doesn’t understand what the issue is and thinks it’s an “unnecessary issue” and people should making it into something bigger than it is.
What do you think? Does she have a point? Did people overreact? Or did mom underreact? Is this a very real issue that needs to be explored?
