All Hail the Queen: Aretha Franklin Gone, but Never Forgotten

Written by on 16 August 2018

With a soul swelling from the depths of her very being, with a voice that was unparalleled and unforgettable and with a stage presence that brought countless audiences to their knees, Ms. Aretha Franklin was more than a singer, a performer, a legend and a diva, she was a true Queen who blessed the masses with her musical genius for more than 6 decades. Although there will undoubtedly and deservedly be sadness among her family, friends, loved ones and fans, Aretha will always be with us from her extensive catalog of music to her thrilling performances to her shaping and molding of countless generations of singers after her.

The trailblazing diva epitomized greatness and blackness in only a way she could do, crossing the color line and overcoming barriers that required the sort of strength of power that was in abundance in Ms. Aretha. Whether bringing the church to the White House, bringing tears to the eyes of President Obama, being named as the greatest voice of all time, becoming the first female inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or giving us one of the greatest civil rights and feminist anthems with “Respect,” Ms. Aretha did it all with a grace and elegance that was only befitting a queen. As we say goodbye, we honor a legend and hail to the Queen. Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, gone but never forgotten.
